Gazette issued renaming 13 univs named after Sheikh family

A gazette notification has been issued renaming 13 universities named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.

The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued the gazette on Wednesday, February 12.

Sheikh Hasina University, Netrakona was renamed Netrakona University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University, Kishoreganj renamed Kishoreganj University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University, Naogaon renamed Naogaon University, and Meherpur Mujibnagar University renamed Meherpur University.

The name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agriculture University was changed to Gazipur Agriculture University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Shariatpur Agriculture University changed to Shariatpur Agriculture University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University changed to Bangladesh Digital University, Bangamata Sheikh Fajilatunnesa Mujib Science and Technology University, Jamalpur changed to Jamalpur Science and Technology University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Pirojpur changed to Pirojpur Science and Technology University.

Earlier on January 16, the Advisory Council of the interim government decided to rename the 13 universities.

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, shared this information in a Facebook post on the day.

Sources in the Secondary and Higher Education Division, and The University Grants Commission, UGC, also confirmed the matter.
