Titumir students return to classes after week-long protest

After staging a seven-day protest demanding the transformation of Government Titumir College into an independent university, students have finally returned to their classes and examinations.

On Tuesday morning, students were seen attending classes, which ran from 8:45 am to 11:00 am, though attendance remained relatively low. Additionally, the final examination for third-year undergraduate (honors) students under the cluster of seven colleges began at 12:30 pm.

Students said they resumed classes following a concrete assurance from the Ministry of Education. However, they warned that if no visible progress is made within the next seven working days, they may resume their protest.

One of the protest leaders, Noor Mohammad, stated on Tuesday morning, "For now, the movement will remain suspended for seven days. During this period, classes and examinations will continue as usual. Based on the government's actions, they will decide their next steps."

Rohan Hossain, a first-year Physics student, said, "I hope the government does not delay in addressing our demands. We want a proper academic environment, not disruptions."

When asked about the situation, the college principal, Professor Shipra Rani Mondol, told Jago News, "After a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Education, students have suspended their protest and returned to classes. Hopefully, such an undesirable situation will not arise again in the future."
