Ministry finds Titumir College students' ultimatum illogical

The Ministry of Education found no justification for protests with ultimatums demanding the immediate granting of university status to Government Titumir College, as the government is already in the process of establishing a separate university for seven government colleges, including Titumir.

In a statement issued on Saturday, February 1, the ministry acknowledged the ongoing movement by Titumir College students advocating for their institution's elevation to university status.

It clarified that an expert committee, headed by the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), is actively working toward establishing a distinct university for Dhaka’s seven government colleges. The ministry emphasised that Titumir College's concerns are being given special consideration in this initiative.

According to the statement, the committee has already initiated discussions with student representatives from the seven colleges to address the issues raised.

The ministry further explained that organising protests with ultimatums seeking the immediate declaration of Titumir College as a university lacks rationality, given the ongoing efforts to resolve the matter comprehensively. "All those involved in the movement are requested to exercise patience and cooperate with the government's plans," the statement reads.

Additionally, the ministry urged students to avoid activities that cause public inconvenience or disrupt academic operations. It called for constructive engagement to ensure a smooth transition and resolution of the long-standing demand for improved institutional status.
