Professor Dr Anupam Sen, Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong’s Premier University, has resigned amid ongoing student protests. The university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer have also stepped down.

The resignations were confirmed on Friday night (December 6) by the university’s Registrar, Mohammad Iftekhar Monir. He stated that Anupam Sen cited old age as the reason for his resignation, while the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer resigned for personal reasons.

Students had been protesting for the past two days, demanding the Vice-Chancellor's resignation. On Wednesday, they locked down three campuses, effectively enforcing a complete shutdown.

Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, forced resignations of Vice-Chancellors and other officials were reported across several universities nationwide. However, Premier University in Chittagong was an exception. At that time, while some students called for Dr. Anupam Sen’s resignation, a larger group stood in his support.
