HSC results reparation: Education boards explore options
Following the cancellation of the postponed HSC and equivalent examinations due to student protests, education boards are exploring different methods to prepare and publish the results.
At a meeting on Wednesday (August 21), officials from the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee discussed various approaches, including subject mapping based on the number of exams taken.
Different suggestions were put forward, such as using SSC results or reviewing JSC and PEC exam results for mapping purposes.
The meeting, chaired by Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar, the chairman of the Inter-Education Board Coordinating Committee and the Dhaka Education Board, focused on finding a fair and equitable way to assess students who were unable to complete all their exams.
Tapan Kumar emphasised that the boards would consider all available options, including subject mapping and the marks from conducted exams.
However, he stressed that any final decision would depend on the recommendations and approval of the examiners and system analysts, as well as the Ministry of Education.
Regarding the practical examinations, which were not conducted, Tapan suggested that subject mapping could be used to determine practical marks based on the performance in related theoretical subjects.
The HSC and equivalent exams began on June 30 and involved 1.45 million candidates.
Due to the quota reform movement, all exams scheduled for July 18 and subsequent dates were postponed and eventually canceled.
A total of 13 days of exams for 61 subjects were affected, with varying numbers of canceled exams across different departments.
While all students were required to appear in 13 subjects, including four compulsory subjects and eight optional subjects, the actual number of exams conducted varied among the boards.
Some boards required six or seven exams, including a departmental exam. As a result, the number of canceled exams differed across institutions.
