The government has decided not to open the primary schools from Sunday (July 4) considering the prevailing situation centring the ongoing student movement.

Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, senior information officer at the Primary and Mass Education Ministry, confirmed it to Jago News on Saturday afternoon.

On July 31, the ministry announced that the government primary schools, which remain closed across the country since July 24, will reopen on August 4.

However, it said the primary schools in 12 city corporations and Narsingdi municipality will stay shut.

Earlier on July 17, the Primary and Mass Education Ministry announced the closure of primary schools in eight city corporation areas, citing student security concerns amidst protests for quota reforms.

On July 24, the ministry asked all primary schools across the country to close for an indefinite period.
