End harassing students, release all detained ones: Univ teachers’ network

Teachers from various universities across Bangladesh have called for an immediate end to the harassment of students as well as ‘mass arrests.’

They also demanded the release of detained students.

They expressed their solidarity with the ongoing student protests during a rally organised by the University Teachers Network at the base of Aparajeya Bangla on the Dhaka University campus on Monday.

Jahangirnagar University anthropology professor Sayeed Ferdous presided over the rally.

“All those involved in the deaths of students should be brought to book. We support students’ demand to open universities,” he said.

Nasir Uddin Ahmed, an associate professor of English at Jagannath University, said the attack on students and filing of cases against them must be stopped and universities should be opened at the earliest.

Dhaka University economics professor Dr Rushad Faridi, Khulna University’s environmental science discipline professor Abdullah Harun Chowdhury, BRAC University’s Law Department teacher Saimon Reza, among others, spoke at the programme.
