Edn institutions to remain shut till 100% safety ensured: Minister
Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury on Wednesday said the government will not consider opening of educational institutions at this moment without ensuring 100% safety of the students.
The ministers said they are monitoring the overall situation.
"We cannot consider the opening of educational institutions without ensuring 100% safety of students…And it is, by no means, expected to make the situation volatile by making such announcements,” Mohibul said in response to a 48-hour ultimatum by people involved with the quota reform movement to open the educational institutions .
Mohibul was talking to reporters after attending a meeting at the home ministry.
Citing the ongoing higher secondary exams, the minister said their first priority now is to resume the examination. He said the HSC exams scheduled for Thursday have already been cancelled.
He also said the issue of higher educational institutions should be thought differently particularly the issues of peaceful coexistence and security on the campuses. “These issues should be settled first. None of us want to see anarchy further after opening the institutions in a hurry,” he added.
Mohibul lamented that from the beginning it has been seen that something is announced but something else is being taking place. The announcers claiming that things will be done peacefully, but those who are implementing it are not keeping it in a peaceful process. “Here we see something evil. These need to be considered,” he added.
