Schools can be shut if temperature dips below 10C

Primary and secondary schools in any district can be closed if the temperature there drops below 10 degrees Celsius during the Winter.

Primary and Mass Education Ministry, and the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education on Tuesday issued separate orders in this regard.

A severe cold wave is sweeping over different districts. It was learned that the education activities of students there are being disrupted in the cold wave. If the maximum temperature in the districts drops below 10 degrees Celcius, regional deputy directors of the ministry and the directorate can close classes of primary and secondary schools after discussing with education officers there, according to the orders.

However, the orders, issued in the public interest, will remain in force till January 31.
