Daffodil University closed after student-local clashes

The Daffodil International University (DIU) authorities have announced it closed for 11 days from November 6 to 16 after clashes between students and locals.

The announcement was made in a notice signed by the university Registrar Dr Mohammad Nadir Bin Ali early Monday.

Earlier on Sunday, the registrar in another notice said all classes will be held online for the next seven days till November 12.

It was learned that the locals allegedly attacked the university students in Khagan area of Birulia in Savar, on the outskirts of capital Dhaka on Sunday evening, leaving several students injured.

After the attack, the students and the locals clashed in the evening.

Earlier on October 27, miscreants picked up Hasibul Islam Ontor, a student of the Textile Engineering Department of the university, and beat up him mercilessly. Later, they left him in Khagan area.

On November 2, he succumbed to his injuries in a hospital in Mymensingh.

Later, a murder case was filed in this connection and police arrested an accused named Rahat.

The students, however, staged demonstrations blocking road demanding the arrest of the rest accused and the highest punishment for them.
