Prof Nurul Alam made new JU VC

Prof Md Nurul Alam has been appointed as the vice chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) for the next four years.

A notification, signed by Education Ministry deputy secretary Md Mahmudul Alam, confirmed the appointment on Tuesday.

According to Article 11 (1) of the Jahangirnagar University Act 1973, the Chancellor of the university, President Abdul Hamid, appointed Prof Nurul Alam as vice chancellor of the university, said the notification.

Nurul Alam is a professor in the Department of Physics at the university. He had served as the Pro-VC (Education) of the University since August 14, 2016.

Earlier, on August 12, Prof Amir Hussain, Prof Nurul Alam, and Prof Ajit Kumar Majumdar won the VC Panel election held at Jahangirnagar University.

Prof NurulAlam was the three-time president of Jahangirnagar University Teachers' Association (JUTA) and dean of the Mathematical and Physical Science faculty.

Born in 1957 in Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka, he joined the university in 1982.
