Govt doesn't want to shut educational institutions now: Moni

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Saturday said the government does not want to shut educational institutions right now due to a rise in the Covid-19 infection rate.

"We do not want to shut the educational institutions . . . students go to their schools after taking vaccines. We're thinking about vaccination of students under 12 years," she said while talking to journalists after a programme of a college in capital Dhaka.

She said a meeting of the National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19 is due tomorrow, where decision will be taken after discussing the overall situation.

Dipu Moni said the students have already suffered due to Covid-19 as they attended classes mostly online, not in person. The ministry has taken various steps to fill the gap created due to absence of classroom-based teaching, she added.

"We need to do some adjustment in our plan," the minister said and urged all to maintain heath rules.
