DU-affiliated 7 colleges' exams to continue
Amid the student protests, the Ministry of Education has decided to continue the examinations of seven colleges affiliated to the University of Dhaka as per schedule.
"This decision has been taken in an urgent meeting held on the students protests and their demands," public relations officer of the ministry M A Khair said on Wednesday.
He said Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, State Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, the directorate of secondary and higher education secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, DU-affiliated seven colleges chief coordinator Prof ASM Maksud Kamal and coordinators of the seven colleges, among others, virtually attended the meeting.
The sources in the ministry said the decision of holding the exams has been taken on two conditions.
The conditions include the dormitories will remain shut during the exams, and the examinees will have to follow the coronavirus health guidelines.
After the meeting, Maksud Kamal said, "Today's meeting decided to hold the DU-affiliated seven colleges' examinations as per routine. But it would be informed later when the scheduled exams of yesterday and today will be held."
But the examinations of national university and the public universities will stay suspended as per the goverment decision, said.
He also said, "These examinations will be held after opening of the universities on May 24."
Earlier on Monday, the education minister said the government decided to open the universities' residential halls from May 17 and classes from May 24 (after Eid-ul-Fitr).
After her this announcement, the ongoing examinations of the country's all public universities were suspended.
In line with this, the authorities on Tuesday evening suspended the same of the DU-affiliated seven colleges.
The move prompted the students to form a human chain at Nilkhet intersection in the that evening, seeking withdrawal of the decision.
On the following day, they staged demonstrations and today blocked the intersection to press home their demands.
Meanwhile, the students called off their blockades at the capital's Nilkhet and Science Labratory intersections after the announcement of continuing the exams.
