1.61 lakh students get GPA 5 in HSC exams

A total of 1,61,807 students got the highest grade point average (GPA 5) in the HSC and equivalent examinations under 11 education boards across the country this year. Last year the number was 47,286.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially announced the results through video conferencing at 10:55am from Gono Bhaban on Saturday.

This year, a total of 1,145,329 candidate registered and passed HSC from nine general education boards, while 88,302 candidates passed Alim from Madrasa Board and 133,746 passed from the Technical Education Board.

The HSC results were evaluated based on the students’ Junior School Certificate (JSC), and Secondary School Certificate SSC results as no exam was held during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The results were published after coordinating 75 percent of the SSC and 25 percent from the JSC and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) results, said Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni recently.

The cabinet earlier approved a draft bill for an amendment to the Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance 1961 allowing the education boards to publish results without holding exams amid any crisis.
