The government has extended the closure of all educational institutions, except Qawmi madrasa, to January 16 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

M A Khair, information and public relations officer at the Ministry of Education, confirmed this on Friday.

"The ongoing shutdown has been extended considering the situation arisen. Country's all educational institutions will remain shurt till next January 16 but Qawmi madrasa will be out of the purview of the closure," he said.

The government ordered all educational institutions to close on March 17 following an outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country.

Since then, the shutdown has been extended on several occasions, and most recently it has been extened until December 19.

The government, however, scrapped this year's HSC, JSC, PEC and respectively equivalent examinations to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

This year's annual examinations in the secondary level were also cancelled for the same reason.
