No annual exams in secondary level this year

The government has cancelled the annual examinations in the secondary level this year.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said this at a virtual press conference on Wednesday.

National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) will set a new syllabus and students will be given weekly assignments. NCTB has prepared a syllabus that can be completed within 30 working days, the minister said.

The students will have to submit four assignments each week following that syllabus, she added.

The minister also said secondary students will be promoted to the next class based on these assignments.

The students who have followed the online classes on TV till now will find it easy to complete the assignments. Those who could not attend the classes can now take help from their educational institutions, she said.

On 16 March, the education ministry issued a statement announcing the government's decision to keep all educational institutions and coaching centres shut for 18-31 March, taking into consideration the students' safety amid the pandemic.
