32 lakh students to get stipend, merit scholarship
Around 32 lakh students will be provided stipends, and merit scholarships during next financial year 2020-21.
Of them, about 24.30 lakh will receive stipends, and 7.87 lakh get merit scholarships, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said.
The minister came up with the announcement while unveiling Tk 568,000 crore budget for FY 2020-21 in parliament on Thursday.
He said 5.57 lakh male students and 10.95 lakh female ones in secondary level, 1.16 lakh male students and 4.62 lakh female ones in higher secondary level, and 50 thousand male students and 1.50 female ones in degree level will get stipends.
On basis of public exams' results, around 6 lakh students have alreadly been provided merit scholarships, Minister Kamal mentioned.
He also said that 1.87 lakh more students would be given merit scholarships during the next fiscal year.
