BGE dept scientific exhibition held at UODA
A scientific exhibition organized by the department of Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (BGE) of University of Development Alternative (UODA) was held at the university’s Life Sciences faculty building at Lalmatia in the capital from January 27 to 29.
The Registrar of the university Prof Iffat Quayes Chowdhury inaugurated the exhibition.
The Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences Prof Dr Rahmatullah, Chairperson the Department of BGE Prof Dr Rownak Jahan, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy Prof Shamsul Haq and many other distinguished guests were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Students of honours & masters program of the department of BGE displayed their various exhibits on Aquaponics, 3 Components Farming, Bioremediation, Meeting the Challenges of Global Climate Changes, Breeding and Conservation of endangered fish and bird species, Treating Complicated Diseases with Indigenous Medicinal Plants and also displayed posters on their scientific findings.
They also displayed homemade scientific equipment made at low cost like- Centrifuge machine, Hot Water Bath, Gel Electophoresis, Magnetic Stirrer etc in the exhibition.
A seminar entitled “challenges & prospects of Biotechnology in context of Bangladesh” by Prof Mamun Rashid Chowdhury of the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Dhaka University was held on the first day of the science fair.
Career counselling program was also conducted by Tasnin Khan Eusufzai (Ex-Student, BGE, UODA), Scientific Officer, Advanced Seed Research & Biotech Centre, ACI Agribusiness.
Prof Md Monirul Islam of Agro-technology discipline of Khulna University gave a lecture on “what Biotechnology can do to improve life” on the second day of the program.
