DUCSU polls on March 11
Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and the hall union elections are going to be held on March 11.
Dhaka University Vice-chancellor and also the president of the DUCSU Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman finalized the date and time as per clause 8(e) of the DUCSU and hall union constitution. The voting will start from 8am and continue until 2pm, according a DU press release on Wednesday.
Two separate meetings were held with hall provosts and the advisory council of DUCSU election with DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman in the chair in the afternoon at VC’s lounge to fix the schedule to hold DUCSU and hall union polls.
Professor SM Mahfuzur Rahman, chief returning officer of DUCSU polls, told BSS that the schedule for the much awaited polls was fixed after considering overall situation to break the ice for holding the election, according to BSS.
“The pre-requisites to hold the polls are-amending DUCSU constitution, formulating electoral code of conduct and publishing final voter list– will be fulfilled within the shortest possible time,” said Mahfuzur, a professor of International Business department.
General students said that the university authorities should take measures to create a congenial atmosphere on the campus to hold a free, fair, neutral and acceptable election.
DUCSU, which was once considered as a breeding ground of politics, was last held on June 6, 1990.
On January 6, 2019, the Supreme Court gave the order clearing way for holding the polls after three decades.
