Pahela Baishakh celebrated at JU
Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla calendar of 1425, was celebrated on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus here today with traditional festivities and much enthusiasm.
Marking the day, teachers, students along with officers and employees of the university, brought out a colorful procession from the Social Science Faculty this morning with colorful banners, festoons, masks and sign of Bengali culture including 'Palki', 'Dheki' and such traditional things, BSS reported.
Led by JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Farzana Islam, the procession ended on the Business Studies Faculty premises after parading the whole campus.
Earlier, JU VC Professor Dr. Farzana Islam exchanged greetings with university community members at her house on the campus.
Meanwhile, the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of the university organized a three-day long Baishakhi fair at the central cafeteria premises to celebrate the first day of Bengali calendar.
Professor Farzana Islam inaugurated the fair as the chief guest on Friday while JU Treasurer Professor Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq and Director of JU TSC Professor Bashir Ahmed were accompanied the VC.
Besides, JU TSC organized a cultural function at the Selim Al Deen muktamancha while JU Drama and Dramatics as well as Bangla department separately organized cultural function at their respective departments.
Meanwhile, visitors along with university's socio-cultural and voluntary activists thronged at different points of the campus as well as respective venue for welcoming the Pahela Baishakh.
