SUST students demand judicial inquiry of attack on Zafar Iqbal
The students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Sunday demanded a judicial inquiry into the attack on noted writer and educationist Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal.
Several hundred students from different departments of the university organized a human chain program in front of the Central Library Building on the campus on Sunday at 9.30am.
Later they brought out a protest procession that paraded the main streets of the campus and then ended at round premises while a gathering programme was held.
The agitated students condemned the heinous attack on Zafar Iqbal and urged the government to take exemplary punishment against the culprit through a judicial probe.
However, SUST teachers’ association and Sammilito Sanskritik Joat held protest programmes separately.
Zafar Iqbal, who was seriously injured in the knife attack on the campus on Saturday afternoon, is now undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.
Soon after the incident, SUST students caught the attacker from the Academic Building-A and gave him a mass beating before handing him over to police.
