Students’ strike underway at DU
Pragatisheel Chhatra Jote, an alliance of leftist student bodies have enforced its pre-called strike in Dhaka University campus demanding the punishment of BCL activists who attacked on the demonstration of general students in the campus.
The strike began around 7am on Monday.
Leaders and activists of the alliance blocked different academic buildings including the main entrance of the Arts Building on the campus since morning.
On the other hand, a group of students under the banner of “Students against repression” took to streets on the campus in response to the call of strike.
Besides, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student body of Bangladesh Nationalist Party expressed solidarity with Pragatisheel Chhatra Jote, an alliance of leftist student bodies which called the strike.
On last Tuesday, activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) beat up demonstrating students who besieged the vice-chancellor in his office in protest against a previous assault on them by BCL.
The demonstrators took to street on the campus demanding the punishment of BCL leaders who involve in the attack, the proper investigation into the matter, the sponsor of the medical treatment cost of injured students, the withdrawal of case against students, and the election of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU).
