DU passes Taka 664.37 crore budget

The Dhaka University (DU) senate on Saturday passed a Taka 664.37 crore budget for the fiscal 2017-18 in the annual senate session at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus.

DU Treasurer Professor M Kamal Uddin placed the budget with Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair, said a DU press release.

Professor Kamal also presented a Taka 667.19 crore revised budget for the fiscal 2016-17.

In the proposal budget Taka 610.10 crore will come from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Taka 42.55 crore will come from the university`s own sources. The budget will likely to have a deficit of Taka 11.72 crore, the release added.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor and also DU Senate Chairman Professor Arefin Siddique underscored the need for receiving higher education in Bangla version and said that many nations are taking higher education in their respective mother languages.

In this regard, he called upon all to take lessons from the Bangla speeches of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at United Nations (UN) general assembly on 25 September in 1974 and at Calcutta Brigade Parade Ground in India on February 7, 1972. The DU VC also called for building the country with Liberation War spirits.
