Pro-AL panel sweeps over DU Senate polls

Pro-Awami League Blue panel of Dhaka University on Monday swept over the teachers’ representative election of the university senate bagging 33 posts out of 35.

The Blue panel secured 33 senate posts while BNP-backed White panel got only 2.

The elected teachers’ representatives are Prof Aftab Ali Sheikh of Leather Engineering and Technology Institute, Prof Sabita Rezwana Rahman of Microbiology Department, Prof Md Ziaur Rahman of Criminology Department, Prof Shibli Rubayat-ul Islam of Banking and Insurance Department, Prof Md Rahmat Ullah of Law Department, Md Lutfar Rahman of Statistics Department, Prof AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan of Television, Film and Photography Department, Prof Abu Md Delwar Hossain of History Department, Prof Ishtiaq Moin Syed of Physics Department, Prof Md Abdus Samad of Applied Mathematics Department, Prof Mubina Khondaker of Marketing Department, Associate Professor Chandranath Poddar of Mathematics Department, Prof Delwar Hossain of International Relations Department, Prof AKM Jamal Uddin of Sociology Department, Prof Md Abdul Aziz of Theoretical and Computational Chemistry Department, Associate Professor Lafifa Jamal of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department.

Professor Nazma Shaheen of Nutrition and Food Science Institute, Professor Majibur Rahman of Microbiology, Prof Md Hasibur Rashid of Management Information System, Prof Subrata Kumar Aditya of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, Prof Abul Mansur Ahmed of Mass Communication and Journalism Department, Professor Md Aftab Uddin of Genetics Engineering and Bio-technology Department, Prof Supriya Saha of Physics Department, Prof SM Abdur Rahman of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology Department, Associate Professor Zannatul Ferdous of Zoology Department, Prof Mohammad Ali Akkas of Management Department, Prof Kajal Krishna Banarjee of English Department, Prof Md Baitullah Quaderi of Bangla Department, Associate Professor Kazi Hanium Maria of Physics Department, Assistant Professor Nusrat Jahan of Tourism and Hospitality Management Department, Associate Professor SM Rezaul Karim of History Department, Associate Professor Papiya Haque of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Department, Prof Fazlur Rahman of Institute of Education and Research (IER), Prof ABM Obaidul Islam of Physics Department and Prof Touhida Rashid of Meteorology Department were also elected as the Senate members.

Some 1,444 teachers of the university cast their votes from 9am to 1pm at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus to elect 35 teachers out of 75 candidates.

DU Treasurer Professor Kamal Uddin conducted the election.
