Committee formed to take action against errant Pvt varsities

Education Ministry has formed a four-member committee to take action against the universities which failed to shift academic activities to their own campuses, a basic condition stipulated in the Private University Act 2010.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid disclosed the decision to the journalists after a meeting with the chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) on Tuesday.

“Though we gave chances for several times, many private universities failed to move to their own campuses,” said the minister.

Disclosing the formation of a committee Nahid said, “We will take action against the varsities on the basis of the reports of the committee.”

UGC member Prof Dr Md Akteruzzaman is the convener of the committee while UGC officer Jesmin Parvin will serve as the member secretary. Other two members are Professor A K M Shahnewaz and additional secretary to the Education Ministry Abu Hasan Chowdhury.
