International Mother Language Day observed at GUB
The historic International Mother Language Day was observed at Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) on Tuesday with paying tribute to the martyrs of the language movement, who laid down their lives for the mother tongue in 1952.
In the early morning, a number of faculty members and students rallied and placed floral wreaths at the Dhaka Central Shaheed Minar as well as GUB Shaheed Minar led by acting Vice-Chancellor & Treasurer Md. Shahid Ullah and Registrar Lt. Gen. Mainul Islam (LPR).
In celebration of the day GUB family organized a seminar, cultural show, wall magazine competition, free creatinine blood test and diabetes checkup at GUB auditorium.
Well-known language veteran Dr. Jasim Uddin Ahmed was the chief guest while Md. Shahid Ullah, acting Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer of GUB presided over the session.
Lt. Gen. Mainul Islam, Registrar of GUB; Professor Dr. Golam Ahmed Faruqui, Dean of Faculty of Business Studies, GUB; Professor. Dr. Md. Fayzur Rahman, Dean of Faculty of Science and Engineering spoke as guest of honor.
In the discussion, all the speakers including Language veteran Dr. Jasim Uddin Ahmed expressed their solidarity to victims of language movement who lost their lives in 1952.
To the last, a cultural event on mother language movement was staged before the audience. Faculty member of different departments, university students, club activists, media persons and GUB officials took part in the programme.
