Eminent citizens call for taking steps to correct textbook errors
Speakers at a roundtable today urged the government to take immediate steps to correct mistakes in textbooks distributed among the students at primary and secondary levels this year.
Alongside corrections of textbooks errors, excluded texts have to reinstated in the textbooks to uphold the spirit of war of liberation, they told the roundtable on "Textbook errors" at the Liberation War Museum here. Sammilita Sangskritik Jote organized the roundtable.
Eminent journalist Kamal Lohani, journalist and columnist Syed Abul Muksud, cultural personality Ramendu Majumder, noted educationist Shyamoli Nasrin Chowdhury and leaders of the sangskritik Jote, among others, addressed the roundtable.
Trustee of Liberation War Museum Mofidul Haque on behalf of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote read out a written statement on textbooks errors at the roundtable.
At the written statement, five-point demand including reinstating excluded all texts in the textbooks, taking bold action against the officials responsible regarding mistakes and excluding texts of textbooks and taking steps to improve quality of textbooks for next academics years to imbue the students with spirit of war of liberation war.
Following the textbooks error incident, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid at a press conference said officials, who have shown negligence regarding printing of textbooks for primary and secondary level education, will be punished.
"We will not tolerate any negligence in printing of textbooks..... Officials responsible for mistakes in textbooks will be punished after submission of probe report," he said.
The education ministry has already taken action against two officials on the basis of preliminary investigation. A probe-committee was formed to identify officials responsible over the mistakes in textbooks, the education ministry sources said.
They said 36,21,82,245 textbooks were distributed among 4,26,35,929 students of pre-primary, primary, ebtedayee, secondary, dakhil and technical students for the 2017 academic year on January 1.
