DU teacher sacked on sexual assault charges

Dhaka University authority has sacked a teacher of political science department on charge of sexual assault of a female student.

Dr. Imran Hossain, an associate professor, was suspended in 2011 on the allegation.

He has been sacked at a syndicate meeting on Tuesday night as the allegation against him has been proven true, said Syndicate member and president of DU Teacher’s association Dr Maksud Kamal.

Meanwhile, the authority also suspended another teacher on the allegation of plagiarizing his PhD Thesis from the research of two Turkish professors.

Md Omar Faruk, an associate professor of Islamic history and culture department, is accused by the Turkish professors.

A five-member committee led by the pro-VC of Dhaka University has been formed to investigate the incident.
