Diesel still favourite for Hyundai’s SUV

Despite the brouhaha over diesel, Hyundai Creta, currently the largest selling SUV in the Indian market, continues to be largely diesel driven with 80% sales coming from diesel variants and just 20% coming from petrol.

According to top Hyundai India officials, the current price differential between petrol and diesel fuels will make sure that the entry-level segment will continue to be petrol heavy but in new segments like compact SUVs, diesel will continue to rule.

Hyundai sold 7,981 units of the Creta domestically in July and 53,586 units in the January-July period. Exports of the model clocked 21,128 in January-July period with numbers peaking in June and July (5,448 and 5,062 respectively). Since launch in June 2015, the Creta has sold 94,474 units in the domestic market and 33,524 units in exports.
