Gold prices hit record high in local market

The price of gold in the local market has once again increased. The price of the highest quality gold—22-carat—has been raised by Tk 2,403 per bhori (11.664 grams), setting a new record at Tk 1,59,027. This marks the highest price for gold ever recorded in the country.
The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) stated that the price hike is due to a rise in the cost of acid gold (refined gold) in the local market. The new prices will take effect from Friday, April 11.
Previously, the highest price for one bhori of 22-carat gold was Tk 1,57,872, which was in effect from March 29 to April 8. On April 9, the price was slightly reduced, but within just two days, it has been increased again, breaking all previous records.
The decision to raise the price was taken at a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring held on Thursday, April 10. The updated pricing was announced in a statement signed by the committee chairman, Masudur Rahman.
