NBR extends tax return deadline by 16 days

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for individual income tax return submissions by 16 days, until February 15.
An official order regarding the extension was issued on Thursday, confirmed NBR’s Public Relations Officer Md Al Amin.
Currently, there are over 10 million Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) holders, with more than 4 million filing returns annually. This year, the government has made it mandatory for employees in various institutions, including government officials, to file returns online.
NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman stated that nearly 1.2 million online returns have been submitted from September 9 last year to January 26.
An NBR official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the deadline extension and added that over 3.4 million returns had been submitted by January 27.
Earlier, the NBR had extended the deadline twice in response to requests from various sectors and taxpayers.
