Adviser Nahid's signature forged to secure CEO position
The Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) has denied the renewal application of Kamrul Hasan Khandaker for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position at Jamuna Life Insurance Company after his educational certificates were proven fraudulent.
Undeterred, Kamrul Hasan resorted to forgery in an attempt to retain the role.
In his latest application to IDRA, he submitted a fake recommendation letter allegedly from Posts, Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Nahid Islam. The letter bore a forged signature of the adviser, using an English signature and seal that were not authentic.
Kamrul Hasan's renewal application, filed on November 7, 2023, cited an MBA degree obtained via distance learning in 2002 from a Deemed University in Uttar Pradesh, India. However, on December 6, he submitted two additional certificates from Ibais University, claiming a Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) degree in 2019 and an MBA in 2021.
IDRA required proof of equivalency for the foreign MBA and validation of the IBAIS University certificates from the University Grants Commission (UGC). Kamrul Hasan failed to provide any such documentation.
On March 19, 2024, IDRA rejected his renewal application, citing the lack of equivalency certification for his foreign MBA and the unverifiable IBAIS University certificates. A subsequent appeal and lengthy hearing process culminated in IDRA reaffirming its decision on June 2, 2024.
In December 2024, Kamrul Hasan submitted a new application, this time accompanied by a recommendation letter purportedly from Adviser Nahid Islam.
Investigations revealed the letter's signature was forged. Ministry officials clarified that Adviser Nahid Islam exclusively signs in Bengali, whereas the forged signature was in English.
Adviser Nahid Islam's private secretary, RHM Alaol Kabir, categorically denied issuing any such recommendation, labelling the act a deliberate forgery intended to tarnish the adviser's reputation.
On December 24, 2024, Adviser Nahid Islam issued a formal letter to the Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division. In it, he warned against unethical lobbying efforts leveraging his name or identity:
"Unscrupulous individuals are lobbying various departments using my name to gain illegal advantages. This is unethical and damaging to my reputation. Forged signatures have been submitted in applications, which is completely unacceptable."
Repeated attempts to contact Kamrul Hasan for his comments regarding the forgery allegations went unanswered.
