Record-breaking remittance in December
Bangladesh achieved the highest monthly remittance in its history in December 2024, with inflows reaching $2.64 billion (or $2.639 billion).
At an exchange rate of Tk 120 per dollar, this amounts to an impressive Tk 31,668 crore.
This milestone surpasses the previous record of $2.59 billion set in July 2020 during the pandemic. The latest figure was revealed by Bangladesh Bank and marks a significant achievement in the month of victory for the nation.
According to Bangladesh Bank data, the remittance received in December 2024 was $648 million higher than December 2023, which recorded $1.99 billion. Except for July 2024, every other month in 2024 saw remittance inflows exceeding $2 billion.
In the first half of the fiscal year 2024-25 (July-December), expatriates sent $13.777 billion in remittances, $2.977 billion more than the same period last year. During the first half of the previous fiscal year, remittances totaled $10.8 billion.
