Meeting discusses current labour situation
A view-exchange meeting was held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara on December 3, attended by representatives from BGMEA, the Bangladesh army, Industrial Police, Department of Factory Inspection, DCs of Dhaka, Gazipur, and Narayanganj districts, as well as DGFI, NSI, SB, DB, and garment factory representatives. The meeting aimed to discuss the current situation in the garment industry.
BGMEA Administrator Md Anwar Hossain chaired the meeting, while the joint forces were led by Major General Md Moin Khan, GOC of the ninth Infantry Division. Additional IGP of Industrial Police, Md Sibgat Ullah, and the members of the BGMEA Support Committee also attended the meeting, a press release said.
Md Anwar Hossain expressed his appreciation for the patience and prudence demonstrated by the Bangladesh Army and various law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order across the country's industrial zones, including Gazipur. He commended their role in building the country and the revival of the economy.
The BGMEA administrator sought continued cooperation from the Bangladesh Army and law enforcement agencies to ensure stability in all industries, including the garment sector.
The meeting focused on discussing various law and order challenges within the industrial sector.
Factory representatives shared their views on maintaining security, and the discussion emphasized the importance of resolving any disputes between factory owners and workers through dialogue. Participants agreed to be vigilant in preventing any labor dissatisfaction.
The Bangladesh army assured that it is committed to maintaining a secure environment in the industrial areas. The army also urged factories to file cases against criminals identified through CCTV footage.
Major General Md Moin Khan assured garment entrepreneurs of the Bangladesh army's unwavering support for the industry. He noted that, with the direct cooperation of the army, 99% of factories in Gazipur, Savar-Ashulia, Dhamrai, and Narayanganj are operating smoothly.
He emphasized that the army would continue to support the garment industry and contribute to keeping the economy moving forward.
The Industrial Police reinforced that no one is above the law and pledged to prevent any attempts to disrupt industry operations, ensuring those responsible are held accountable.
All parties present at the meeting committed to working collaboratively to maintain a harmonious and productive atmosphere within the garment sector.
