Potatoes selling at Tk 45 per kg in Rangpur
To ease potato prices for consumers, potatoes are now available at Tk 45 per kg in Rangpur, with Pran Agro Limited collaborating in the initiative launched by the district administration and the National Department of Consumer Rights Protection.
The Cardinal Eluate variety, imported from the Netherlands, has been priced at Tk 60-62 per kg in the market, so many buyers are relieved to purchase potatoes at the discounted Tk 45 per kg.
Deputy Commissioner Rabiul Faisal inaugurated the programme on Thursday at 1 pm in front of the Kachari Bazar Civil Surgeon’s Office, with officials from the National Department of Consumer Rights Protection and Pran Agro Limited in attendance.
Aminur Rahman, a resident of Paglapir, expressed satisfaction with the discount, saying, “Potatoes are Tk 55-60 per kg in the market, so buying at Tk 45 is a relief.”
Zakaria Hossain, General Manager of Pran Agro Limited, noted that each buyer can purchase up to three kg of potatoes, and the programme will continue until market prices stabilise.
Potato sales begin daily at 10 am.
Deputy Commissioner Rabiul Faisal said that potatoes will be available at designated shops throughout the week. The initial goal is to sell 1,000 sacks (50 kg each), with the option to increase if demand requires.
