A court in Dhaka has started recording testimonies in a Tk 227 crore case filed against mobile network operator Robi Axiata PLC.
Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, former managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of Robi, first testified in the court of Joint District and Sessions Judge Court, Dhaka on Sunday.
Later, the court fixed July 25 for further testimony.
Mahtab Uddin lodged the case on August 22, 2022, seeking post retirement benefits and compensation for terminating him from the company unjustly.
Except Robi, its former CEO Izaddin Idris, and the then board Chairman Thayaparan Sangarapillai were also named in the lawsuit.
It was learned that Mahtab Uddin submitted his resignation letter on August 2, 2021, and the Board of Directors of Robi wrote to him on August 5 of the same year that the resignation was accepted unconditionally.
But the company on May 22, 2022, sent a notice to him, stating that he was sacked.
Earlier on October 7, 2021, Robi sent him a showcause notice about a financial transaction of 2019. Mahtab Uddin said the company and its board were aware of the transaction.
