CPD terms budget 2024-25 ordinary

Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has termed the proposed national budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year an ordinary one in an extraordinary time.

CPD Executive Director Fahmida Khatun said this in a budget review program organized by the local think-tank at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka on Friday.

She said, "The targets of inflation, GDP growth, and investment in the budget are too ambitious and unrealistic. Many goals of the economic index in it will not be fulfilled."

"The measures taken in the budget to overcome ongoing economic challenges are poor and inadequate," Fahmida said, adding, "On the whole, the budget 2024-25 is ordinary in an extraordinary time."

The CPD executive director also said the steps taken in the budget to contain inflation and provide relief for low-income people are not enough.
