Afzal Karim made Padma Bank chairman

Sonali Bank PLC's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Afzal Karim has been appointed the new chairman of Padma Bank PLC.

He will serve the bank as chairman until further notice as per Bangladesh Bank's BRPD ref no. DA/2024-998 dated January 31.

He replaces Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat who recently stepped down as chairman of Padma Bank citing health reasons.

After Nafeez Sarafat's resignation, Afzal Karim was made acting chairman of the bank.

Afzal Karim also served Bangladesh House Bilding Finance Corporation (BHBFC) as managing director before joining Sonali Bank as CEO and MD.

Before joining BHBFC, he was deputy managing director of the state-owned bank.
