100MT of potatoes arrive through Hili from India

Some 100 metric tons of potatoes have arrived through the Hili land port in Dinajpur from India as the vegetable import resumed.

A truck carrying 25 metric tons of potatoes entered around 2:40 pm and then, three more ones with 75 tons came till this evening.

A firm named M/s Mukta Enterprise imported the potatoes.

After the import, the price of potatoes decreased by Tk 8-10 to Tk 25-30 per kilogram in vegetable markets in Hili.

Earlier on December 14 last year, some 5,206 metric tons of potatoes were imported from India through the land port.

Then, India stopped exporting potatoes to Bangladesh, resulting in an unusual rise in wholesale and retail prices in the market.

Yusuf Ali, deputy assistant officer of Plant Quarantine Station at the port said 52 firms were permitted to import 32,000 metric tons of potatoes.
