Nafeez Sarafat resigns as Padma Bank chairman

Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat has stepped down as chairman of Padma Bank PLC citing health reasons.

He sent his resignation letter to Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday which was accepted in a meeting at the central bank on Wednesday.

BB Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder presided over the meeting and its deputy governor and other banks' managing directors were present there.

"Padma Bank's chairman resigned due to health reasons and Bangladesh Bank accepted his resignation letter but the bank's board was not dissolved," said BB spokesperson Mezbaul Haque.

Now Sonali Bank's Managing Director (MD) Afzal Karim will serve as acting chairman of Padma bank until a new one is appointed, he added.
