The government has hiked the maximum retail price of soybean oil by Tk 12 to Tk 190 per liter.

It has also raised the MRP of sugar by Tk 12 to 107 per kilogram.

The country's leading edible oil importer City Group's director Bishwajit Saha confirmed the matter to Jago News on Thursday afternoon.

He said the Commerce Ministry increased the price of soybean oil by Tk 12 per liter and raised the price of sugar by Tk 12.

The ministry verbally informed them about the price hike, he said, adding that the new price rate will come into effect today.

Earlier on November 2, the Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association sent a proposal to the Commerce Ministry to increase the prices of bottled and loose soybean oil by Tk 15 per liter.

In the proposal, the organization said it wanted to raise edible oil prices due to an increase in prices of crude oil in the international market and an unusual depreciation of BDT against the US dollar.
