Govt re-fixes potato prices

The government has re-fixed the prices of potato, raising it to Tk 35 from Tk 30 in retail level.

The price was re-fixed at a view exchange meeting at the Department of Agricultural Marketing on Tuesday, an Agriculture Ministry handout said. 

Delegations of the Commerce Ministry, Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, and Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection were present at the meeting.

Bangladesh Cold Storage Association president, wholesalers and merchants of Karwan Bazar and Shyambazar also attended the meeting.

Earlier on October 7, the Department of Agricultural Marketing set the prices of per kg potato- Tk 23 in cold storage, Tk 25 in wholesale, and Tk 30 in retail levels.

But the businesses objected to the prices, and at one stage they stopped selling the vegetable.

In today's meeting, the price of per kg potato was fixed Tk 27 in cold storage, Tk 30 in wholesale, and Tk 35 in retail levels.

For a couple of weeks, prices of potato have increased unsually, hitting Tk 55-60 per kg in retail level.
