BAT donates Tk 9.16 crore to Labour Welfare Fund
British American Tobacco (BAT) Bangladesh has donated about Tk 9.16 crore to the Labour Welfare Fund under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, says a press release.
BAT Bangladesh has been regularly contributing to this fund since inception of the Bangladesh Workers Welfare Foundation Act. BAT Bangladesh has been a loyal partner of the Government in all its initiatives for over 100 years now.
In the past 10 years, BAT Bangladesh has contributed a total of Tk 58 crore 15 lakh 41 thousand and 170 to the fund.
On behalf of BAT Bangladesh, a four-member delegation team comprising of Saad Jashim, Head of Human Resources Department of BAT Bangladesh, Sheikh Shabab Ahmed, Head of External Affairs, company’s two other high officials Adrita Datta and Akhtar Anwar Khan handed over the cheque to State Minister for Labour and Employment, Begum Monnujan Sufian at the conference room of the Secretariat on Sunday.
During the programme, Labor and Employment Secretary KM Abdus Salam, Director General of Bangladesh Workers Welfare Foundation, Mollah Jalal Uddin Ahmed, NDC and other officials were also present amongst others.
Since, the Labour Welfare Fund was formed, BATB has been donating a portion of their profit regularly to the fund as a responsible organization. BATB has solely contributed around 15% of the total accumulated Welfare Fund till date.
The Labour Welfare Fund is indeed a remarkable initiative from the government to ensure safety and security for the country’s labour force. The fund promises to help workers and their families in case of any unfortunate incident or major accidents. This is a great relief to the workers and their families alike.
