Govt's dependency on bank borrowing continues to rise

The government's dependency on bank borrowing continued to increase in the beginning of current fiscal year to meet budget deficit.

In first one and a half month of this FY 2020-21, the government borrowed about Tk 11,000 crore from banking sector, according to latest data of Bangladesh Bank.

Relevant stakeholders said the government is not getting revenue as per target as the coronavirus pandemic badly affected the business.

As a result, it became excessivly dependent on bank borrowing to fulill extra expenditure of the budget, they added.
