Mercantile Bank's vice-chairman dies of Covid-19

Mercantile Bank Limited's vice-chairman Mohammad Selim has died of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

He passed away around 2pm at city's Anwar Khan Modern Hospital Ltd while undergoing treatment, said the bank's public relations division chief Md Abdul Hamid Shohag. 

The hospital director (administration) Dr Ehteshamul Haque confirmed to Jago News Selim's death from COVID-19.

Mohammad Selim was one of them who established Mercantile Bank Limited, a private institution.

Earlier, AKM Shahjahan Ali, 55, a senior officer at Bogura Corporate branch of state-owned Janata Bank Ltd, died of the disease early Friday.

However, more than 500 bank employees across the country, so far, caught the deadly virus and of them, 24 died.
