Transaction thru' mobile banking crosses Tk 40,000cr

Every day the number of mobile banking accounts is increasing and alongside amount of transaction through the channel is also on rise.

The record highest Tk 40,647 crore was transacted through mobile financial services (MFS) in December last year as a single month, according to updated statistics of Bangladesh Bank (BB) on MFS.

BB officials said opportunities of instantly sending money from everywhere, including from abroad, payment of services like electricity, gas, water etc., payment of purchases bill, payment of salary-allowance and so on helped soar number of customers and amount of transaction.

According to the BB report, a total of 16 banks now provide mobile bank services. In the end of December, 2019, number of registered customers in mobile banking stood 7.96 crore that was 7.85 crore in November. Around 10.55 lakh customers rose in a single month.

MFS providing institutions consider inactive the accounts in which no transaction is made in three consecutive months.

MFS information said number of active mobile banking accounts declined despite customers number and transaction rose.

The number of MFS active customers drecreased .09 percent to 3.47 crore in December last year which was 3.50 lakh in November.

According to latest instruction of the central bank on MFS transaction, a customer can make cash in or submit up to Tk 30,000 in five times in a day and highest Tk 2 lakh in 25 times in a month.

Earlier, an MFS account holder could make cash in highest Tk 15,000 in two times in a day and Tk 1 lakh in 20 times in a month.
