Traffic resumes in Uttara as workers end blockade

Protesting ready-made garment (RMG) workers for their salary arrears have withdrawn blockade on road in city's Uttara.

They left the road for vehicular movement around 3:30pm on Saturday on assurance of meeting their arrears, said DMP's Uttara Division deputy commissioner Nabid Kamal Shaibal.

Earlier at noon, the workers of Top Jeans factory blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Abdullahpur demanding their arrears.

Severe gridlock was seen on both sides of the road as vehicular movement came to halt due to the blockade.

Nabid Kamal said the agitated workers end their blockade after police assured them of resolving the  problem through discussion among Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) representative, owners, workers and police.

He said owner of the factory decided to close it but they have to pay dues of workers as per law. So, police are trying their best to come to a solution regarding the crisis, he added.
