BGMEA signs collaboration deal with ‘Sudokkho’

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has signed a collaboration agreement with ‘Sudokkho’, a UK and Swiss government-funded programme, reports UNB.

Under the deal, the BGMEA will get technical assistance from Sudokkho for providing training consultancy service to the RMG industry.

BGMEA president Dr Rubana Huq and Sudokkho’s team leader Erling Petersen signed the agreement on behalf of their respective side, said a BGMEA media release on Saturday.

The technical assistance will further encompass transferring Sudokkho’s knowhow into the academic curricula of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT).

The RMG and Textile Industry Skills Council (RTISC) and BGMEA-affiliated training centers will also get technical assistance under the agreement.

Sudokkho has established in-factory training centers in over 120 factories. The training system increases the skill of sewing machine operators in 15 to 20 days.

BGMEA directors Asif Ibrahim, Miran Ali and Shihaboddoja Chowdhury, BGMEA joint secretary, Mamunur Rashid were, among others, present during the signing ceremony.

Sudokkho is a seven-year private skill market development programme in Bangladesh funded by UKaid through its Department for International Development (DFID) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
