Taka 1,37,742 crore proposed for women development in Gender Budget

Finance Minister AMA Muhith today proposed an allocation of Taka 1,37,742 crore for women development in the Gender Budget of fiscal 2018-19, which is Taka 25,723 crore more than that of the proposed budget of outgoing fiscal 2017-18.

The finance minister made the proposal while placing the national budget for 2018-19 fiscal in Jatiya Sangsad this afternoon with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair, BSS reported.

Muhith placed separate allocations under 27 ministries and 16 divisions of the government in the proposed budget for 2018-19 fiscal.

The allocation of Taka 1,37,742 for the women development is 29.56 percent of the total budget and 5.43 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The allocation for women development has doubled in the last five years. The allocation to the Gender Budget in 2013-14 fiscal was Taka 59,756 crore that increased by Taka 77,986 crore in 2018-19 fiscal.
