Muhith for increasing budget implementation rate
Finance Minister AMA Muhith today underscored the need for increasing the implementation rate of the budget to achieve the development goals, including Vision-2021 and Vision-2041 as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
“We are aware of it. We will have to think about the timely implementation of the budgetary allocation. We will have to enhance the implementation capacity,” he said.
The finance minister was addressing as the chief guest at a pre-budget meeting, titled “Budget to Materialize the Dreams” at the Jatiya Press Club in the city.
Bangladesh Study Trust organised the meeting to discuss about the outline of the expectation and achieve in the upcoming budget.
Economic Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Mashiur Rahman, former Advisor of the Caretaker Government Mirza Azizul Islam, Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Member (Senior Secretary) of the General Economics Division (GED) Dr. Shamsul Alam, among others, took part in the discussion.
Bangladesh Study Trust Chairman Dr AK Abdul Momen presided over the meeting.
Muhith said budget size should be enlarge, otherwise, the government cannot provide better services. From the initial stage, the finance minister said, he tried to increase the budgetary allocation as per as possible.
For taking benefits from the big budget, he said, the government is providing all sorts of efforts to increase the budget implementation rate.
Muhith said the government is providing special focus on skilled manpower since many foreigners are working in the managerial level of the country’s various companies.
“I am taking initiatives since 2011 for developing skilled manpower. In the management level, many foreigners are working. That’s why, huge amount of money go overseas as salaries and allowances for them,” he added.
For taking benefits from demographic divided, he said, the government will have to arrange proper training for the youth people.
Mashiur Rahman said Bangladesh can achieve its development goals by properly using the demographic dividend. The government will have to invest more in the education sector for creating skilled manpower, he added.
